Discovery Kingdom is a seasonal park, meaning it is generally open weekends during the spring and fall, and daily during the summer. There is also limited operation during the winter for Holiday in the Park. For complete park hours, please see the Calendar:
Please note, the operational schedule is subject to change.
It is impossible to know what crowds will be like on any given day, but if you would like to avoid crowds, go early in Spring, or visit Monday - Thursday in the summer. Memorial Day weekend, 3-4th of July, and Labor Day weekend are all very busy times to visit. In addition, certain days of Fright Fest can be very busy. Busy days are still great for seeing shows and animal attractions, but ride lines can reach well over 1 hour. You may also want to consider paying the premium for the Flash Pass, which will let you cut to the front of the line on many attractions.
One of the most commone questions is, "What happens if it rains during my trip to Discovery Kingdom?" Luckily, most of the attractions, including the roller coasters and shows continue to run even if it rains. However, if there is lightening (not common in northern California) or high winds, some attractions and shows may close for safety reasons. One thing to keep in mind is if the weather is bad, many times the park will close earlier than originally scheduled.
